The SIAMS Framework

SIAMS inspections are carried out in line with the 2023 Framework and in line with national policies. The current framework (September 2023) guides all SIAMS judgements. Leaders should understand the school’s vision, its theological basis, and its impact. Please see below for more information.

2023 SIAMS Framework

Overview of the SIAMS framework

  • Key strands broken down simply

SIAMS looks at how a school’s Christian vision shapes daily life and enables pupils and adults to flourish. Inspection explores:

    • Christian vision
    • Curriculum
    • Collective worship
    • Wellbeing and relationships
    • Justice and responsibility
    • Religious education
  • Common language used in inspections

During SIAMS inspections, schools will hear shared language such as:

    • Theologically rooted Christian vision
    • Flourishing
    • Context
    • Impact
    • Inclusive, invitational and inspirational worship
    • Courageous advocacy

This language helps schools clearly explain their practice and intent.

  • What good looks like in practice

    In effective Church schools:

    • The Christian vision guides decisions
    • Pupils and adults are known, valued and supported
    • Worship is meaningful and inclusive
    • Learning supports spiritual growth
    • Religious education is well‑planned and valued

Good practice is always understood within each school’s context.

  • What inspectors will explore

During a SIAMS inspection, inspectors will explore how your school’s Christian vision is clearly articulated, lived out and makes a positive difference to pupils and adults. They will look at how this vision shapes decision‑making, curriculum design and relationships, and how it supports pupils to flourish academically, socially and spiritually. Inspectors will consider the impact of collective worship, the effectiveness of religious education, and how leaders support strong, reflective practice. Conversations will focus on impact rather than paperwork, and inspectors will want to hear the authentic story of your school.
